Karen Lewis: Thank you for having me. Oceania Marketing Group was born out of my passion for making marketing and digital accessible to all, especially small to medium Australian businesses. Throughout my career working in agencies and running SEO campaigns long before Google took over Yahoo and MSN, I've witnessed the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing. It can be overwhelming, and I wanted to be a guiding light for businesses looking to harness its power. Interviewer: You've had an impressive career in marketing and digital. Could you share some insights from your journey working in agencies and running SEO campaigns during the early days of digital marketing? Karen Lewis: Absolutely. Back in the early days, the digital marketing landscape was quite different. Google wasn't the dominant force it is today, and we had to adapt to various search engines like Yahoo and MSN. SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, was a crucial aspect of our campaigns. We had to understand the algorithms of different search engines to ensure our clients' websites ranked well. Working in agencies, I had the opportunity to work on diverse projects across sectors like Retail, Finance, Insurance, and Banking. It was during this time that I honed my skills in SEO, SEM, Social, CRO, Data/Analytics, and more. These experiences were invaluable and helped me understand the intricacies of digital marketing strategies . Interviewer: How did your move to Australia influence your career and your decision to launch Oceania Marketing Group? Karen Lewis: Moving to Australia in 2011 was a turning point in my career. I was drawn to the "fair go" attitude of Australia, where everyone has the opportunity to run their own business and succeed. This inclusive and entrepreneurial spirit resonated with me.
